It’s Friday

Yep… We made it yet another day, and to the weekend. It does seem like a challenge, doesn’t it? Life can be a challenge sometimes, and even overwhelming at times.

I officiated a funeral this morning, and as I did we talked about life, (the years between someone sunrise and sunset), family, and friends. Many families see each other at funerals, weddings, Easter (maybe) and Christmas (maybe.) We often say we will catch up soon, we will have dinner soon, I will call you… and alas, even with the best intentions… sometimes those pledges to connect become coulda’s, woulda’s, and shouldsa’s, especially when those sunsets happen before we think they will.

My cousin Orlando recently passed away. Do you think his family, his friends, his coo-workers thought that they wouldn’t see him the next day? I really do mean it when I say we don’t know, what the person next to us has gone through, what they are going through, or what they are about to go through.

Overwhelming. Yes, trying to fit everyone in to your life, your schedule, and in your precious moments of freedom and free time requires a great deal of work, intentional work. If it is important you will do it.

Picking up that phone. Sending a note. Visiting. Reaching out… all those things happen because you made them happen. It was important enough to do it.

There are times when I get home from work, or my day and I just want to collapse into a chair, eat dinner, and relax. I don’t want to be “on” for anyone. AND… there is a dinner date, a group to meet, a meal to be shared. AND… I would not have missed it for the world. It is in those moments when I realize how important people are to me.

That is what I have to share from my heart with you today.
